The Doomsday Project, Deep Events, and the Shrinking of American Democracy

It seems that I derive most of my postings from global research, which is a Canadian Web Site. The people who run that site make such an enormous effort to bring us all the news in our world, that I really have little choice in the matter: Here I go again: Professor Peter Dale Scott is this time quoting Senator Frank Church in a speech from 1975: "I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that the National Security Agency, and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss: That is the abyss from which there is no return." As my wonderful black medic from my advisory team north of Kontum in Vietnam would have said: "Right On!". In recent years Peter Dale Scott has become more and more concerned with the interactions between three important and alarming trends in American history: The first is America's increasing militarization and above all its inclination, even obsession, to involve itself in needless and pernicious (harmful) wars. The second, closely related, is the progressive shrinking of public politics and the rule of law as they are subordinated, even domestically, to the requirements of covert US operations abroad. The third, also closely related, is the important and increasingly deleterious impact on American history and the global extension of American power, of what I have called "deep" events. These events, like the JFK assassination, the Water- gate break-in, or 9/11, which repeatedly involve law-breaking or violence, are mysterious to begin with, are embedded in ongoing covert processes, have consequences that enlarge covert government, and are subsequently covered up by systematic falsifications in media and internal government records. One factor linking Dallas, Watergate, and 9/11, has been the involvement in all three deep events of personnel involved in America's highest level emergency planning, known since the 1980's as Continuity of Government (COG) planning, or more colloquially as "the Doomsday Project." The implementation of COG plans on 9/11, or what I call Doomsday Power, was the culmination of three decades of such planning, and has resulted in the "permanent militarization" of the United States, and the imposition at home of institutions and processes designed for domination abroad: Writing about these events as they occurred over the decades, I have been interested in the interrelations among them. It is now possible to show how each was related both to those preceding it, and to those which followed.

Presidents? Obama has been as Bad as Bush!!

Mike Whitney, the man who wrote this analysis for Global Research, is right, of course. By selecting Obama as their president, our electorate lowered itself to the lowest level of idiocy. As we all know, Obama, right after being elected, made certain that the presidential follies in which his predecessor engaged, kept Bush's idiotic wars in Iraq and Afghanistan alive, right after picking up a Nobel Prize for his folly. If it were possible, I imagine that Nobel was turning over in his grave, yet Obama has no discernible morals! Just south of our United States, Hugo Chavez used his powers under his country's new "enabling laws"to enact the "Law for Dignified Refuge", a presidential decree which mandates "dignified and humane" housing for all Venezuelans. The Venezuelan parliament approved the controversial, and temporary enabling laws, because the country faced an unprecedented housing crisis due to the country's massive floods in December. More than 125,000 people lost their homes in the disaster requiring a speedy response from the government. Chavez swung into action immediately, turning the presidential palace into a homeless shelter and initiating a campaign to construct permanent housing for the victims. Prof. John Kozy: The Media in America -Selling Views, Calling it News

Sometime in the 1960's, Professor Kozy took part in a university symposium along with three other faculty members: A political scientist, a historian, and a journalism professor. The topic was "Freedom of the Press", good or bad. During the sixties the Cold War was still being fought. The Soviet Union's news agencies, TASS and Pravda, were continually attacked by the American "free press" as untrustworthy. A common claim was that a controlled press could never be trusted while a free press could, and my three colleagues on the panel supported that view. A controlled press, I argued, most certainly could NOT be trusted when reporting on governmental actions or policies, but, I pointed out that much news is not affected by government, and I saw no reason to distrust the so-called "free press", no matter what is reported. My argument rested on the observation that a controlled free press, being funded by its controlled government, had no need to attract readers, while the so-called "free press" had to rely on readers to remain economically viable. The free press had to market its wares in the same way that any retail company must, and one way to do that was to slant the news in ways that made it attractive to the news organization's target groups which, in a sense, biased all the stories the free press reported.

Another Nuremberg in the Making? Our Intelligence Agencies Use Physicians for Torture!

In Activist Post, John Galt writes of a series of revelations by our American Intelligence Agencies which are employing Physicians to Torture our country's Detainees. Americans seem largely unaware that our country, supposedly founded upon principles of due process and individual rights, now appears to have been overthrown by Gestapo-like factions of government that uses trained physicians to carry out torture, in the supposed defense of this nation. Although what has been uncovered so far does not yet approach the scale of Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union's Gulag's, the methods are surprisingly similar. State sanctioned torture is a hallmark of tyranny, and inevitably leads to the collapse of the country that legalizes it. An AP exclusive report recently released, reveals that detainees in the "War on Terror" were whisked away from Gitmo before the American judicial system could account for them. The AP article states that the "transfer"allowed the US to interrogate the detainees in CIA black sites for two more years without allowing them to speak with attorneys or human rights observers or challenge their detention in US courts. Dr. Thomas B. Manton, Gulf Human Rights Hero Murdered

Dr. Thomas B. Manton was apparently too much of a critic for British Petroleum, so the logical plan of those who needed him out of the way, was to hire a local thug in the correctional facility in which he was incarcerated. Dr. Manton had been leading the "Gulf Truth Movement", and the heat from his investigation was apparently too much for those with a lot of money to spend. Was BP behind this murder? Who knows! For the walls in the "Liberty Correctional Facility" are currently unable to talk, fearing that a smear campaign against them would lead to their defacement. Nevertheless, Dr. Manton is dead, and the person who murdered him is not talking. Is it true that the "New Perps" in the White House are Worse than the Old Ones??

Robert Sheer, whom I thank for this analysis of our problems with the Obama Administration, points us toward the banking meltdown, which has left enormous pain and political upheaval, read-suffering-in its wake, but it is indeed amazing that the folks who created this mess are rewarded with ever more important positions in our government. Yet the recent appointments of Gene Sperling and William Daley, key Wall Street-connected perps of this crisis,,to the most critical positions in the Obama White House have not generated much controversy. The justification for the media's indifference appears to be that the new appointees can hardly be worse than the hustlers they replaced. From the beginning, the Obama administration has been flooded with veterans of the Clinton White House, who pushed their agenda of radical deregulation that Wall Street had long sought, and were rewarded with fat fees from the big banks when they left government. Sperling was a key component, back in the Clinton Treasury Department, of the deregulation of the financial industry, that precipitated this crisis, but his then-boss, Lawrence Summers, the man he will now replace as Barack Obama's top economic adviser, was certainly even more culpable. Both were well rewarded for their efforts. Summers received $8 million in Wall Street compensation back in 2008, while he was an adviser to candidate Obama, and at the same time, he also got $2.2 million from his various consulting activities, mostly for banks that ran into trouble.

Even Lost Wars Make our Corporations Rich

Chris Hedges, having been there, done that, knows enough about wars to understand that power does NOT rest with the electorate, nor does it reside with either of the two political parties. It is NOT arbitrated by a judiciary that protects us from predators. Power rests with corporations, and these gain a very lucrative profit from war, even wars that we have no chance of winning. All polite appeals to the "formal" systems of power will NOT end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We must physically obstruct the "war machine", or accept a role as its accomplice. The moratorium on anti- war protests in 2004 was designed to help elect the Democratic presidential candidate, Senator John Kerry. It was a foolish and humiliating concession. Kerry snapped to salute like a windup doll, when he was nominated, and talked endlessly about victory in Iraq, assuring the country that he would not have withdrawn from Fallujah, but by the time George W. Bush was elected for another term, we had another sad lesson in incredulity. The Democratic Party, once in the majority, funded and expanded the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Barack Obama in 2008 proved to be yet another advertising gimmick for the corporate and military elite. All our efforts to work within the political process to stop these wars have been abject and miserable failures. While we wasted time, tens of thousands of Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani civilians, as well as US soldiers and Marines were traumatized, maimed and killed.
