Veterans Today: Stressing The Point: When is a PTSD Claim Legitimate, and When Is It Not?

Expanded version of an article first published in the November 1995 issue of For the Defense, the monthly journal of the Defense Research Institute, Chicago, Illinois. Partial Reprint of a 1996 article on PTSD. Stressing the Point: When is a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Claim Legitimate, and When Is It Not. PTSD is a condition that arises from exposure to life thraetening circumstances and it was first diagnosed among some of the survivors of wartime combat. Throughout W.W.I the syndrome was known as Shell Shock and was thought to be primarily motivated by the soldier's effort at self preservation. In World War II it was called War Neurosis or Combat Fatigue. The modern diagnosis of PTSD, a by-product of the Vietnam War, falls within the general DSM-IV category of Anxiety Disorders, sub category of Stress Disorders. Listed below are the DSM-IV's diagnostic criteria for PTSD, followed by my detailed discussion  of these criteria. Like pregnancy, PTSD is defined as something one has or does not have: for medical legal purposes, there are no shades of PTSD gray, even though in actuality and in some current research, the condition is viewed more in terms of a gradient of symptoms. Medical-legally, however, one is either in or out of the diagnosis, according to whether or not the individual fulfills the six specific, detailed criteria, the so-called A-F criteria. In a nutshell, the A criter ia require an individual to have been exposed to a life-threatening circumstance. Earlier incarnations of the DSM used a broad and overly inclusive yardstick, outside of the range of normal human experience, but this criterion was considered too loose and was easily abused in its interpretation. With the recent publication of DSM-IV, the "A" criteria have been tightened considerably. The new wording requires that the person experienced, witnessed or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death. Even the secondary phrase, or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others implies a grave degree of bodily threat. It was the intention of the DSM-IV subcommittee to tighten the "A"criteria so that it conformed more closely to the kind of actual life-threatening circumstances, such as combat, where PTSD was first observed. In essence, the trauma must be sufficiently severe that it ruptures a person's bubble of invulnerability. Most of the time people avoid thinking about the possibility of death in order to carry on their daily lives without constant, high levels of anxiety. PTSD victims re-experience the trauma over and over again, in a variety of different ways. This results from the psyche's effort to master overwhelming perceptual stimuli.

The cumulation of this Evangelical fervor was the election of GW Bush, 911, and support the terror war. In my opinion, this relationship is powerful evidence that Evangelicals still buy the official version of 911 and support the terror war. We are both very personable people. But what I believe about his beliefs makes him the devil incarnate. In fact I've watched this whole drama unfold for four decades, ever since I was handed a copy of The Late Great Planet Earth in the early Seventies on a university campus by a group called Campus Crusade for Christ, the world's largest interdenominational Christian organization. Hal Lindsey's eschatological view of America's immediate future convinced many about the approaching and impending doom, a very real feeling probably caused the assassination of President Kennedy, the endless and irrational Vietnam war, aggressive social engineering, i.e feminism, inflationary policies of the Federal Reserve, profligate Federal spending of the 1970's just to name a few. Hal Lindsey's genius was to put a spin on those collective feelings and make them Biblical. Armageddon was just around the corner and in a sense he war right, America was going to hell, but not for the reasons he thought, it was heading straight into to Zionist hell where it currently smolders.

in his living room walls and then stopped. I got the message. The state tried to mass execute him, his wife, children and young followers. In 1996, Rabbi Meshulum asked to meet me. I traveled with his wife to Sharon Prison, walked through a maze of sinking corridors until I reached his compound. We shook hands, and he had a powerful grip. We spoke of many things but I wanted to know the big truth from the source: why hadn't he united the kidnapped children with their biological parents? He then blasted the music on his portable tape machine and explained that he didn't have the heart to tell the parents that majority of their children were dead, murdered in atomic experiments, most shipped first to America in cages. Then he revealed the reason for his repression: the founder of the Israeli atomic research program was Shimon Peres, and if the truth came out, he would be exposed for his role in the atrocities.

This article involves a story which I certainly hope turns out to be just a funny rumor. The problem is that the source for this story has very deep Intel connections and usually is right on the money. And there are certain background details which create many more questions which seem quite remarkable in scope. A very strange trip to Africa during the last week of June 2013 for the last three American Presidents. In the June 18, 2013 issue of the Africa Review in Kenya, Africa, a very interesting story detailed expected intersecting visits of both former President Clinton and current President Obama to Senegal, Africa. The topic alone has not received any suitable explanation other than the flimsy reason that they were there to commemorate the Al Cia Duh bombing at the US Embassy in Tanzania. And I believe it or not former President George W. Bush is alleged to also have arrived in Africa during this time period. Former US President Bill Clinton is expected in Senegal hours before the arrival of the incumbent President Barack Obama, sources said. The leading Le Populair daily on Tuesday quoted American embassy sources hinting that the two statesmen could likely meet during their stay in Dakar. The sources further said that President Obama was expected to extend his visit initially billed for 48 hours to 72 hours, beginning June 26. Several sitting world leaders, including, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and the late Pope Jean Paul II, have visited Senegal over the last decade and toured the famous slave dungeon on Goree Island. This visit of three American Presidents to the continent of Africa during the same time period is unprecedented in history and would appear to require an extraordinary explanation which has not been forthcoming. As if this story wasn't already strange enough, it gets even stranger, a story in CNN Politics on June 22, 2013 stated that President Obama and former President George Bush were to be on the African continent at the same time. Obama flies Wednesday across the Atlantic for a trip that takes him to Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania, marking his second visit to sub Saharan Africa as president. He went to Ghana during his first term. Meanwhile Bush, who's made multiple visits to Africa since leaving office, leaves next week for Zambia, where he is working with his global health initiative to renovate a clinic
that will serve as a cervical cancer screening and treatment center, according to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. While the 44th and 43rd president are not scheduled to meet up, first lady Michelle Obama will attend an event hosted in part by former first lady Laura Bush. The two will attend the African First Ladies Summit, put on by the George W. Bush Institute, in Tanzania on July 2, the final day of the Obamas' trip.
