John Swinton, the foremost journalist of his day, was asked to toast an independent press at a New York banquet given in his honor by other journalists. His response was clear and forthright:

There is not one of you who dare write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that they would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would we foolish enough to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my papers, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify. to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what is this folly in toasting an independent press?

WAR CRIMES!
Iraq is littered with high levels of nuclear and dioxin contamination, according to Martin Chulov of the British guardian in it's 1/30/10 issue. Not only has that hapless nation suffered greater rates of cancers and birth defects near many of that nation's areas, but more than 40 sites across Iraq, with three decades of war has left the environment of that once proud nation in ruins. Areas in and near Iraq's largest towns and cities, including Najaf, Basra and Falluja account for about 25% of the contaminated sites, like communities which have seen increased rates of cancer and birth defects over the past five years.
But, on a brighter note: a high-ranking EU delegation, which includes 60 members of the EU parliament has called for the prosecution of Israeli officials, over war crimes in the heavily contaminated Gaza strip. British Labor Party Sir Gerald Kauffim, described their visit as a message of solidarity with Gaza to end the Israeli siege. He called for the prosecution of Israeli officials who had authorized the use of white phosphorous bombs, which are outlawed under the Geneva convention.

The 'War against Terror' is no more than a pretext to further US control over the world's oil reserves. So says Leonid Shebarshin, former head of the Soviet Foreign Intelligence Service.
On the pretext of fighting "international terrorism" the United States is trying to establish control over the world's richest oil reserves, Leonard Shebarshin, ex-chief of the Soviet Foreign Intelligence Service, who heads the Russian National Economic Security Service consulting company, said in an interview for the Vremya Novostei newspaper.
Using the anti-terrorist cause as a cover, the United States has occupied Afghanistan, Iraq and will soon move to impose "our democratic order" on the Greater Middle East, according to Shebarshin. Referring to his meeting with an unnamed al-Qaeda expert at the Rand Corporation, a "non-profit" research organization in the US, Shebarshin said: "We have agreed that al-Qaeda is not a group, but a notion. EU Delegation Urges Trial of Israeli War Criminals!
A high ranking European parliamentary delegation in the Gaza Strip has called for the prosecution of Israeli officials over war crimes in that territory. The delegation, which includes 60 parliament members from 12 European countries, crossed into the Palestinian Gaza Strip on Friday afternoon. Sir Gerald Kauffim, a member of the British Labor Party, who headed the international delegation, called for the European Parliament to urge an ending to the illegal Israeli siege.
He also called for the prosecution of Israeli officials who had authorized the use of white phosphorous bombs." Their use is considered to be illegal by the more civilized nations in our world.
When I served as the American Advisory Team Leader in the so-called "Iron Triangle" on a very dangerous mission near Trung Lap, I used one round of White Phosphorous ammunition only as "artillery marker" rounds to ensure that our artillery ammunition were accurately on target, but I limited their use to only one round, while the Israeli commanders appear to have used them in huge quantities. You see, White Phosphorous will continue to burn long after it hits the designated target, even through metal, and their use against civilians will produce extremely brutal and painful flesh wounds.
