Now it is the Americans who Live in Infamy!

Arthur Schlesinger, the truly distinguished gentleman, for that is what he REALLY was, lived from 1917 to 2007. Among other things, he was an outstanding historian, whose more than 20 books shaped discussions for two generations about America's past, and who himself was a provocative, unabashedly liberal partisan, most notably in serving the Kennedy White House. He agreed that the doctrine and implementation of "our" 2002 National Security Strategy , and its implementation in Iraq, are widely regarded as a watershed in international affairs. After the first bombs fell on Baghdad, he recalled FDR's words following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, "a date which will live in infamy". "Now it is Americans who will live in infamy", he wrote, as their government adopts the policies of Imperial Japan. He added that George Bush had converted a "global wave of sympathy for the US" into a global wave of hatred of American arrogance and militarism." Were he alive today, how would he judge the Israeli incursion into Gaza?
