Brutal History of Allied Occupation? You'd better believe it - As a matter of fact, since my family and I barely survived that gruesome period of American history, I suspect that the author, Giles MacDonogh, may actually be soft-peddling America's guilt (and that of the other war criminals who were her accomplices).
As the author truthfully states, General Eisenhower denied us access to foreign aid, forcing Germans to subsist on no more than 1200 calories a day.
Over a million German POWs died in "Allied" captivity, and at least 2 million women were raped by the Soviets. Hundreds of thousands of us died in brutal deportations. The author has drawn from a vast array of first-person accounts to give a voice to the millions of innocent German civilians who, having lost a brutal war, including the wanton destruction of the beautiful city of Dresden, annexation of my homeland in Schlesien, and who now found themselves struggling to survive a hellish "peace".
