The American Raytheon GBU 28 "Bunker Buster" is a 2.2 ton special weapon for penetrating some 20 feet of reinforced concrete. Earlier, the US had rejected an Israeli request for military equipment that would improve Israel's ability to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
The Americans had viewed the request as a sign that Israel was in the advanced stages of preparations to attack Iran, and felt that such a strike would undermine American interests.
Was Israel's request for the delivery of the GBU 28 accepted by Washington, bypassing the US Congress?
